Don’t let the unusually warm December temperatures fool you – we will see a winter sometime in the next couple of months. When it comes, you want to be prepared. These basics of pool maintenance for the winter months will get you on your way.
- Take care of any leaks now. It is very frustrating to be outside in freezing weather trying to refill your pool with a frozen hose so your pool can stay full to keep circulating.
- Make sure you have a functional freeze guard on your timer so your pool equipment turns itself on when the temps approach freezing. Moving water does not freeze as easily!
- Save energy and money by setting the pool to run a few hours at night. Most of the freezing temps occur at night. You will be running the equipment more than necessary when the pool also runs during the day (when it is warmer).
